Recently I received a big bag of White Whole Wheat flour from Gold Metal Flour. No, that is not an oximoron, it is white, whole wheat flour.

The flour was sent to me and some other moms so that we could test out this new product. They also want you to test it out but more on that later…

What is White Whole Wheat Flour?

White whole wheat flour has the look and texture of refined white flour but more of the fiber rich content of traditional whole wheat flour. This is achieved by using milled white wheat instead of red wheat (which has been traditionally used in the USA). White Wheat is nothing new and is very common in the UK.

This week I am going to incorporate the white whole wheat flour into my recipes. Check back for a new recipe and my results.

Try White Whole Wheat Flour for free and get a gift.

Want to try this new health conscious flour for free? Simply go to our Creative Dish Facebook page and let us know what recipe you’ll be trying out with the flour. We will randomly select a winner from the comments and you’ll receive the prize pack. This contest is open until Nov. 2, 2011. General Mills, owner of Gold Metal Flour and My Blog Sparks are providing the prize pack which will be sent directly to the winner. Don’t forget to let us know your recipe results!

Here in Miami, we have some wonderful “fast food” chicken restaurants. These restaurants serve up healthy grilled chicken in a variety of ways. One of the best is something called a “chop chop”. The basic Chop Chop is grilled chicken breast cut into chunks and served on a bed of rice, lettuce and tomato. Personalization is key.

Chop Chops are wonderful for a quick and easy dinner, a great way to shake up lunch and a delicious way to watch your calories or fat.

On Monday we told you about the great new Paper Dolly Parade greeting cards by Anna Sui. We love these cards not only for their great design but also because they can be repurposed into fabulous crafts. We’ve made ours into standing paper dolls to play with and paper doll magnets. CD Note: You can also make these crafts using any image cut from a greeting card or box. Here’s how:

Standing Paper Dolls

Materials

Anna Sui paper doll card or cut out image of your choice

Thick poster board paper (we used scrap paper)

Glue or tape

Scissors

Directions

Use a precut paper doll or cut out an image of a doll from a card or box. Image should be stiff. CD Ideas: Draw your own doll, cut it out and paste it onto cardboard.

Cut a 1/2″-3/4″ strip of thick poster board.

Glue or tape the poster board strip to the back of the card.

Make A Paper Doll Magnet

Materials

Anna Sui paper doll card or cut out image of your choice

Magnets: Use self adhesive business card magnets, other flexible magnets or repurpose “promotional” magnets you’ve received from shops

Glue stick (if using magnets that are not self adhesive)

Scissors

Directions

Use a precut paper doll or cut out an image of a doll from a card or box. Image should be stiff. CD Ideas: Draw your own doll, cut it out and paste it onto cardboard.

Cut up a flexible magnet into strips. We recycled one that was a promotion from a store. You may also use self adhesive business card magnets available in office supply stores or non-self adhesive flexible magnets.

If using a non-adhesive magnet, add some glue stick to one side and stick onto the back of the paper doll image. If using a self adhesive magnet, simply remove the protective paper and stick to the magnet.

Stick to any metal surface.

There is often a misconception that curry is spicy. While many curry dishes are spicy, curry powder itself is not. Most associate the flavors with Thai and Indian food. This simple mustard curry sauce recipe is a great introduction to curry for those who are not sure they actually like it.

Use this mustard curry sauce on fish, chicken, in a chicken salad or as a condiment on a turkey, chicken or roasted vegetable sandwich. You’ll be hooked.

Mustard Curry Sauce

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Serves: 3-4 people

Ingredients

4 Tablespoons Light Mayonnaise

2 Teaspoons Yellow Mustard

1 1/2 teaspoons Curry Powder

1/4 teaspoon Sugar

1-2 tablespoons Water

Directions

Mix the mayonnaise, yellow mustard, curry powder and sugar together in a bowl.

Add 1 tablespoon water to the mixture and stir to thin out. Add more water as desired to thin out slightly. Thicker sauce is good for chicken salad while slightly thinner sauce is good for cooked fish and chicken.

CD time-saving tip: Make extra and refrigerate for a great condiment.
Creative Dish: Look for a great chicken recipe using our Mustard Curry Sauce later this week.

Back in August, I told you about a great new all natural paint pigment called GLOB. Simply mix GLOB with water to create beautiful watercolor paints.

My son and I thought it would be fun to create finger paintings and splatter paint with GLOB.

First we painted water on finger painting paper.

Then we sprinkled the GLOB pigments directly on the paper.

We used paint brushes, our fingers, splatters of water and additional paint pigments which we mixed with water.

The result was a relaxing and enjoyable activity for my 5 year old and me.

The French translation of Haute Couture is “high sewing” or “high dressmaking”. While we don’t automatically put fashion crafting and haute couture in the same sentence, in essence, the artisans of high fashion have always been the pinnacle of the craft of sewing. It is natural than to reflect on the beauty of designers past and current to gain our own creative inspiration.

Be Inspired to Create

This beautiful haute Couture Embroidery design is from the last 19th or early 20th century. While most of us may not attempt to sew this type of detail. Why not create something inspired by this design?

Draw with colored pencils

Print the pattern and paste scrap ribbons on top

Tie-dye some ribbons

Use icing tubes and try to create the design on top of your cake

In fact, François Lesage, the king of high fashion beading and embroidery for the better part of the 20th to 21st century starts with drawings to create his own designs. Lesage’s embroidery has graced the runways of Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel and John Galliano at Christian Dior to name a few.

Embroidery is old and new, classic and modern. It has been held in high esteem by kings, queens and Hollywood alike.

I couldn’t live without our George Foreman counter top grill. The first George Foreman grills came out in 1994 and I’ve had one version or another ever since. They are great for singles and married alike.

Although most of us typically think of George Foreman grills for their “low-fat” cooking, I love finding new and easy ways to use my grill to help make quick meals.

One of my favorite things to do with “aging” rolls is to make “Cuban” toast. Real Cuban toast is made with Cuban bread. It is basically heavily buttered cuban bread made into a panini. I make my own version, whenever I have a piece of a french baguette, italian bread or leftover rolls.

Make Cuban Style Toast Using A George Foreman Grill

Time: Less than 5 minutes
Skill level: Easy
Tools needed: George Foreman Grill, Panini Maker or Oven (with heavy pan)

Ingredients

Bread such as Cuban Bread, Italian Bread, French Baguette or Leftover Rolls

Butter or Spread

Directions

Heat the Foreman Grill.

Slice bread and place butter generously in between.

Close the bread and place on the Foreman Grill.

Close the grill “smooshing” the bread between the top and bottom.

Cook for about 1-2 minutes until the outside is hard and crunchy. Inside will be buttery and soft.
